An ordinary American girl named Caylee Marie Anthony (August 9, 2005 – June-December 2008) grew up in Orlando, Florida, with her mother, Casey Marie Anthony, and maternal grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony. Cindy reported Caylee missing in a 9-1-1 call on July 15, 2008, saying she hadn't seen her in 31 days and Casey's car smelled like a dead body had been inside for a long time. Cindy claimed Casey had given her various explanations for Caylee's whereabouts before finally admitting she hadn't seen Caylee in weeks. Casey lied to detectives, telling them that a nanny had kidnaped Caylee on June 9, and she had been searching for her ever since, too afraid to alert authorities.

How Did Caylee Anthony Die?
During Casey’s trial, prosecutors alleged that Casey used chloroform on her daughter and suffocated her with duct tape over Caylee’s nose and mouth, as per CNN. Casey’s defense team said that Caylee accidentally drowned in the family’s pool and that her grandfather disposed her body.

In December 2008, investigators discovered a bag of human remains, which was later identified as Caylee's, in a wooded area about a half-mile from Caylee's grandparents' Orlando, Florida, home, where the toddler and her mother were living at the time. Orange County medical examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia told the outlet at the time that the cause of death of Caylee would be listed as homicide by the doctor's undetermined means, and the manner of death would be a homicide.

Who Killed Caylee Anthony?
It's still unclear what happened to Caylee. Initially, Anthony told investigators that she dropped her daughter off at the apartment of Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, a babysitter. She then claimed that no one was there when she arrived at Caylee's house. In September 2008, a woman with the same name came forward and told authorities that she didn't know who is Caylee or Anthony. According to the news, she was later cleared of any involvement. According to the outlet, forensic experts discovered evidence of body decomposition and traces of chloroform in Anthony's car trunk. Although FBI lab reports showed that a hair found in Anthony's car trunk had "characteristics of apparent decomposition" and was "microscopically similar" to strands of hair found in Caylee's hairbrush, the report could not conclusively say the hair belonged to Caylee.

In the docuseries, Casey, was previously charged with her daughter's death before being found not guilty by a jury in 2011, alleging that her father, George, was abusive and was actually the one responsible for Caylee's death.
